Description

Fatigue is a hazard faced by most aviation operations. Research indicates that fatigue is an issue not only in long-haul flights involving significant time zone changes or all-night operations, but across all segments of aviation. A number of factors may make it difficult to reliably estimate your own alertness and performance, increasing your chance of fatigue-related mistakes and accidents.

During this course, you will review scenarios that include long duty days with various interruptions and a scenario that includes multi-day assignments with time zone changes. You will identify a variety of issues such as sleep deprivation, jet lag, lifestyle, diet, and stimulants and methods to mitigate these issues.

Course Objectives

This course is designed to teach pilots to become familiar with the aspects of fatigue in flight operations, identify underlying causes, and develop personal strategies to combat fatigue.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction of Fatigue in Flight Operations
  • Causes of Flight Crew Fatigue
  • Circadian Rhythms and Window of Circadian Low
  • Flight Operations and Duty Periods
  • Proactive Rest Planning
